Sounders beating odds in down MLS season

In a season when attendance is generally down in Major League Soccer, the Seattle Sounders continue to amaze by setting another franchise attendance record Sunday at Qwest Field, on a day when capacity was upped to 32,000 for a visit from the dreaded Colorado Rapids.

The Sounders are averaging over 25,000 fans a game this season to an NFL facility. Indeed, the Sounders are breaking every facility rule set up by MLS in recent years. But it doesn't matter.

What is most astounding about this is that attendance in MLS is generally down this season by some 1,500 fans a game. Take Seattle out of the mix and that decline would be even more profound.
