MLS's on-again, off-again flirtation with Montreal is back on, as commissioner Don Garber says the Impact could move up in 2012. Garber met with Montreal Impact officials during MLS Cup festivities in Seattle over the weekend. The issue for MLS, Garber said, was the general situation with Saputo Stadium: its capacity needs to be increased to 20,000+, while its clubhouses and fan areas need to be upgraded as well. We'll probably see negotiations over the franchise fee as well: Portland and Vancouver managed to talk MLS down to $35 million, as opposed to the $45 million the league was originally seeking. |
